Those Guard Francais are looking great ! To your question of dismounted dragoons, the rules only state that a mounted sqdn ( 2 stands) dismounts to a single infantry stand size. They all look fantastic Günter ! And I agree, better to keep on with the project than stop it half way. I have too many half done projects sat in boxes.

I like the idea of the C-in-C dishing out orders as they see fit but I'd place a minimum of 1 per brigade. That way it represents that the c-in-c has given orders to the brigade (maybe do nothing) but they have potentially been mis-interpreted when received.
