Re: The Sound of the Guns

A light hearted post this. :P Do you chaps paint with background music, or a zen like silence, with the odd thumb cymbal? If you do listen to music, what is your preferred choice and why? I am expecting an eclectic mix of responses, from the Master and Commander soundtrack, through Rammstein to Lil...

Great looking mini's. You have really captured the feel of the clothing being worn put through the dirt. Now, I have to ask, how did you achieve this?

I'm pleased to announce the arrival of the third unit of longbows. One more to come and then it's on to the knights/m-a-a's (which, if the composition works out well enough should include Henry V giving a speach!) and other stuff to round off the army. http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n85/Atheling...

curassier wrote:Sorry to get technical, but is the frontage of those wonderful units of archers
some 180mm ?

It works out as each archer is on a 20mm frontage. So, yep, that's 180mm for the unit. But, you could juggle the measurements around to suit quite easily :) .

The Foundry, Medieval Warfare rules look quite good. written a long time ago by Terry Gore, but well worth a look.

Re: HYW

Really helpful - thanks. Could you also comment on the mixing of knights/men at arms and the "lower orders in the same units? Do you do a first rank of knights and the rest ordinary billmen or whatever? Similarly do you mix knights and sergeants in the same mounted units? No doubt future pictures w...

Re: HYW

Darrell, Really looking forward to more pictures. can I ask a very basic question for which there is probably no simple answer? What are the best sources for livery and shield designs. I can find lots of pictures of shields but not sure how this translates into what the knights are wearing? Curassi...

Re: New issue of wargames Illustrated

Just seen this in the local Newsagents with an article on Napoleonic ships and the most glorious pictures of individual 1/1200 ships which were built painted rigged and converted (he sanded the metal sails to get them thinner and more realistic)by a guy.Taking about 100 hrs each to build. What tale...

Re: HYW Basing

Darrell, many thanks for taking the trouble to respond point by point. I think this is the way to go in so many periods; each base or in your case, unit as a small vignette. Please do put up the rest of your army as you complete each unit. you have a few photos of bill's lovely 100 Years War figure...

Re: HYW Basing

Darrell, fantastic and inspiring work. Thanks for the compliment :) . Please could you explain a little about the basing. Is this for WAB? Yep. Basically I'm more interested in putting together units that 'look right' than opting for conventional WAB basing. If someone I play complains then so be i...
