Scots Greys - hats or tricorne till after Ramillies (1706) given permission to wear grenadier cap (so late 06 or early 07 or maybe even later)
Bearskins came in with the 1768 regulations.

Re: War of the Spanish Succession

Very impressive size regiments, complete with attached guns and various officers flitting about, looks very authentic and periody (!) nice terrain too, good stuff. All except for that green plasticy thing lurking in the trees?

It does not help that the text has not been proofread after it was scanned! It is produced by some software called OCR Optical Character Recognition - not normally very successful with scans of old books, if you want the books download the pdf version (b/w if no pictures) no one is going to pay for...

Re: Litten's Ramillies book

Ray Good question, I got it a few years ago. Caliver are a specialist supplier and not always the cheapest, although they deserve support. I always google for the best deals, often Amazon, book depository or similar, I use Abe books a lot, its amazing the price differences you see. £25 was the RRP i...

Re: Litten's Ramillies book

I have the book, but never finished reading it, it is possibly the most comprehensive book on the battle to date. Re: Dutch at the Boyne

The Danes had moved to Flintlocks very early, so 1690 all Flintlocks and no pikes, also had their grenade launchers and chevaux de frise. The Dutch were changing over, maybe 2/3 flintlock, there were not many Dutch units so maybe a higher proportion. The English and Irish seemed to be worst with a l...
