Re: WSS - Austrians

These are two different regiments. The Austrian Brandenburg-Bayreuth Regiment in WSS carried a red and blue quartered colour with red in the upper left and lower right quarters, and the imperial eagle with crown. Another variation has red, blue, red vertical stripes with the imperial eagle and crown...

Re: Thunder on the Danube - 1704

Sergio, A Danish infantry regiment at the time consisted of 18 line companies and a grenadier company with the exception of the Garden til Fods which had 2 grenadier companies. The two regiments you mention, Prins Carl and Prins Georg provide 6 companies each to the auxiliary corps in Imperial servi...

Re: Thunder on the Danube - 1704

1628 -1764 Danish Artillery carriages were painted red with yellow metal fittings. The King's cypher was also painted on the carriages in yellow. I am curious why you asked the question. No Danish artillery accompanied the two auxillary corps in Austrian (Imperial) and Maritime service during the WS...

Colours of Prins Georgs Regiment

For years I have been troubled by the colours for the Danish Prins Georg Regiment that appear in Sapherson’s booklet on the Danish Army 1699-1715 and on the so-called Wagner plate. I have discussed this with Torstein Snorrason of Denmark, who has done a great deal of research on the Danish Army of t...

Danish Uniforms in Ireland

A number of people have asked for a list of the uniforms of the Danes during the campaign in Ireland 1690-91. The following is the information that I have on these units: Infantry Garden til Fods: straw yellow faced red Dronningens: red faced yellow Prins Frederik: blue faced red Prins Christians: g...

Re: Number of Colours in an English Regt 1689-97

Thanks Mike. I need the info for a bit I'm trying to put together on the colours carried by the Danish Prins Georg and the English Prince George of Denmark regiments during the NYW. I've had some second thoughts on the cuirass for the three Danish cavalry regiments in Ireland. I'm familiar with the ...

Re: another question on danish uniforms in ireland

Guys,

I'll try to put something together. I've ordered a copy of Sapherson and Grant. I think much of the confusion stems from these. I am interested in the sources, if any, that they used. I'll get back.

Number of Colours in an English Regt 1689-97

H.R. Knight in his book, "Historical Records of The Buffs, East Kent Regiment, 3rd Foot", 1905, Vol.1 pg 310 states, "It was at this period [1689-1692], but the exact date cannot be ascertained, that the number of colours carried by a battalion of the line was reduced from one per company to three f...

Re: Danish cavalry in Ireland

The pictures that Dave provided, as well as the text, come from a series of articles on the Danish Army in the WSS by Torstein Snorrason that originally appeared in the Danish magazine Chakoten. I was given permission to translate them and place them on my website from which Dave probably got them. ...

Re: Dismounted dragoons

I want to correct a statement made in Rray's last post. He stated: the Danish Horse had been raised specifically to serve in Ireland and were among the most inexperienced troops in William's army. . I strongly disagee with this. The three Danish regiments of horse were raised by taking drafts from t...

Re: smaller german states (ratings)

Edward,

I'm afraid that I cannot be of much help with BLB2 classifications. I am unfamiliar with their definitions. I will say, however, that Lüneberg units were generally solid and reliable, as were the troops from the other Brunswick duchies (Hannover and Wolfenbüttel).

Any idea which battalion? von Linstow By way of correction to your statement: The accounts make reference to the Coldstream Regiment holding the village/gate against the French Guards and they wer...
