Re: Militia Early 1700's.

Hi Bob,
The North Star/Copplestone figures are quite big figures so I'd suggest that Front Rank figures would probaby mix the best. The North Star ones are designed for the 1670's so you could also look at the Front Rank late seventeenth range too,
Best wishes,
Simon

Will have to try and find the reference again but I seem to recall it referred to Scotsman being recruited straight off the boat

Re: bonnet wearing infantery in ireland?? 1690s

I seem to recall that Antrims regiment included a number of scots in its ranks so with a bit of artistic license they could be wearing bonnets.

The flag in that picture looks very similiar to one from the German regiment Sparre.

Re: Spanish Infantry Colours During War of Spanish Successio

Have found a bit more info about the uniforms for Zuniga and Mancheno. This is from the regimental returns from 1701 but may well have been the same as worn previously. Zuniga Grey-white coat, blue cuffs, veste, stockings and breeches. White neckcloth and hat lace and tin buttons. Sergeants had silv...

Re: London

Haven't been for a while but I do seem to remember the National Army museum had some displays about the WSS.

William lived in Hampton Court palace, although he died just before the War began

Re: Spanish Infantry Colours During War of Spanish Successio

great links Gunter, thanks for posting them. The second one has some very useful plates of the uniforms just prior to the WSS, including the regiments in Flanders. They are certainly a colourful lot :D I believe that the old Tercio uniforms would have still been worn well into the WSS until they got...

Re: Regiment DILLON at Turin, 1706

Charles O'Brien, 5th Viscount Clare became colonel on 8 April 1696, and was succeeded on 11 August 1706 by Murrough O'Brien (probably a relative). The latter is listed as colonel-en-second. The official colonel (i.e. owner of the regiment) was Charles O'Brien, 6th Viscount Clare. He was, however, a...

Re: LOA Fitzjames Horse?

Interesting topic :) As I understand it, this regiment was originally part of James II's army in exile and was formed in September 1691 as the Roi d'Angleterre. It was led by Domenick Sheldon. In 1698 it was merged with the Queens regiment and became the regiment of Sheldon as part of the French arm...
