Re: Cavalry basing

Welcome to the forum! As Barry said, basing size is not critical. My own cavalry units are on 80x60mm. Heck, my dismounted dragoons and converged grenadiers are on individual 25mm round bases so I can use them in Donnybrook. For BLB, I just clump them into a rough close order unit. They take up abou...

Re: Combine Units

It might not be in there, but yes, you can do that as long as they are similar skill levels (d6, d8, etc) and similar type (foot or mounted) AND as long as it won't make the new unit more than 12 rank and file (not including characters). You might restrict the weapon type as (a pikeman can't join a ...

Of course you also run the risk of your card not coming up and your target slipping away or shooting you to pieces!

Re: 6" close combat movement

My brother pointed out a reason to split the movement and charge... IF you are in open order AND within 6" of your target, you can use your move to form into close order and then charge. Close order lets all models fight, not just those in contact and gives you +1 to hit. Changing formation allows n...

Re: 6" close combat movement

Ak... you're right... as published only the models on the current card act. My bad... I sometimes use the cards differently. The only reason to split movement in Donnybrook would be if you wanted to fire a pistol before charging on if you need to test to complete a charge (say, against one of the fe...

Re: Cavalry and Pistols

You did that correctly. Actually, ANY model may move and shoot a pistol as it does not have the Move or Shoot rule (this only applies to muskets and carbines... see the Weapons Chart).

Re: 6" close combat movement

Technically, the 6" charge move doesn't occur until the close combat phase. Most of the time, you may simply move 12" during the movement phase for the sake of expediency, however sometimes it is important to split the move. The most common reason is that you might have allies who are going to fire ...

Re: Continental warfare 1687-1699

In general English, Dutch, and Germans were likely Bullet before 1700 while the French were Blade. There were possibly exceptions in individual units or battles, so you can probably mix the two. The transition of type occurred around 1699 with the majority of powers changing to Blade (and the contra...

Re: Flagging Units

Units usually had one flag per company... obviously, our 18 model units would look a bit overdressed with a dozen flags, so I usually just model two. One to three flags for infantry units works well and I usually model one flag per squadron (six models) of cavalry. Think of it in the same way that w...

Re: VWQ for TYW

Medium artillery and harquebusiers shouldn't be too hard to sort out, though I don't know the former would have enough of a distinction between light and heavy to make it worth modeling. Simply using the field artillery with reduced ranges might work ok. The real bugger is tercios. TYW is not a peri...
