Re: My 1/72nd scale Scanian War project

Sounds interesting. Unfortunately that link collapses down to http://postimage.org/ when I click on it. You may need to modify the link.

Re: Swedish grenadiers during the Scanian War?

I was going to link to the pdf through the Wayback machine, but that won't work any more. I seem to remember the site's owner asking for it to be removed from the archive. I hope he won't mind me quoting the grenadier section here. Grenadiers: Appear to have been uniformed differently from the rest ...

Re: Swedish grenadiers during the Scanian War?

I think that's correct. At the start of the war at least, Grenadiers wore different coloured coats, often grey. There's a good pdf from the old Northern Wars site on the Danes, I'll see if I can locate it.

Re: perrys british awi infantry

Sorry I didn't spot this sooner. A roundabout is the soldier's waistcoat which has had the sleeves of the coat sown on to it (the coat being cut up to provide repair material for the rest of the uniform). http://www.historicalimagebank.com/gallery/d/24967-1/TRW+61+-+15th+Foot+Pvt+1777.jpg http://www...

Re: guards brigade in the american war of independence

This article is very useful on the guards companies sent to America;

Its generally thought that they would not have carried any of the regiment's colours with them to America.

That was a fair assumption; I did mean Swedes, though I was not specific.

Re: Karpus use by higher ranks?

Thanks Tacitus. I may have painted myself into a bit of a corner with karpus style choice, but this has been useful.

Karpus use by higher ranks?

Just wondering; is there any evidence on whether officers in a battalion wore the karpus? I am inclined to put drummers and sergeants in the karpus, but I am a bit less sure about ensigns, captains etc. Any ideas?

Re: Swiss infantry in Spanish or Foreign service

Don't know about Spanish service, but there were some in Dutch pay.
Fortunately there's an article on the Wargames Illustrated site about them;

Barry is dealing with the specifics, but I know that's in the queue in the near future.

Re: Swedish pikemen; gloves?

That's the impression I've formed too, though I did wonder from a practical point of view it might be easier to handle a pike with gloves on to cut down on the wear on your hands. Its usual to see pikemen of various nations with gloves on, at various time.

Swedish pikemen; gloves?

I am having trouble determining whether Swedish pikemen wore gloves. My guess is they were issued with them, but I can't find a definitive answer. Any ideas?

Re: Aughrim Book and Jacobite Grenadiers Question?

For what its worth John Stevens noted that the Grand Prior's regiment had grenadiers with same motif on their caps as on the regiment's colours, a burning city with the motto "THE FRUITS OF REBELLION"
