Yes Juan actually it has proved interesting. Clarence and I plan to run an ACW game using R2E with suitable amendments at HISTORICON in the summer. The rules have adapted pretty well and actually for ACW are even quicker and more simple. We plan to issue a pdf Amendment in the style of R2E with full illustrations, a new play sheet and supporting materials and photos as usual. It will NOT be a new book you will still use the main R2E book as reference but what will be different is:

Artillery (some small modifications for rifling)
Morale factors (less and different - easier to Rally from ROUT)
Orders (some)
Formations (some)
Unit sizes (mostly smaller)

From what we've discussed so far it's going to be a large PDF. Have you warned Clarence yet?
