League Of Augsburg - Fighting Talk

We had our first game at the club last night and found these to be very playable and highly enjoyable. Gave a good fast, large'ish game between Romans and ancient Britons which we were able to fight to a conclusion
in a club night of 3and a half hours with 3 players a side. Pretty much the same as Black powder as you would expect but with quite a few clarifications.
All in all very enjoyable but if you want competition style nit picking play these will not be for you!

These could be just the thing, how do you envisage they would play for the Late Medieval period?

They seem to go right as far as war vof the roses so I think that they would be fine.
I like the fact that you can tinker with them a bit.

Yeah, no army lists so it's back to 'work it out for yourselves' which, if I'm honest, I prefer for Ancients and Medieval wargaming (ie something I actually know a little about ).

The non competitive aspect is certainly a real bonus too.

One or two of the guys at the Durham club are buying the book so I may be getting a game soon. I'll report back post gaming experience...

Rick Priestly et al. played a WotR game with them, here are some of the mods they used (from his post on the Hail Caesar Yahoo Group)

" We treated the - rather few - knights as heavy cavalry with a single
wild-fighters re-roll (1 re-roll on first charge). The opposing gentlemen
obligingly charged and countercharged - resulting in the rapid manglement of my
Lancastians and shaking their Yorkist opponent's. There was some discussion of
the relative (lack of) merit of the English mounted Knights of the period.

Bill and bow - we treated as combined units of heavy or medium infantry. We
didn't mess with the range of the long bows or anything - we gave the bowmen the
marksmen ability - they seemed to work fine. There was some discussion of the
effectivenes of the English bowmen compared to their forefathers in the HYW.

Handguns - very few of these - we treated as crossbows with the addition of
allowing a break test on any roll of a 6 regardless -i.e. not 2 6's where 6 is
required to hit.

Bombards - we treated the artillery as medium artillery and left it at that -
but players did keep muddling up the BP artillery rules! Some strange and
inconstant hybrid was therefore employed - but don't ask what it was. Seemed to
work well though - the guns didn't dominate but were useful".
