Hessen Kassel

OK, so after two years I've finally given in to having a section of the FORUM specifically set up to discuss painting techniques, display examples, show your latest projects and chat about this vital part of the hobby. Manufacturers please feel free to post up your sculpts, ask questions about what the gamers are after and generally promote your work.. no charge! Painters, please also feel free to post up your work for comment and critique. I can't promise the unreserved adulation characteristic of some other fora but I would hope you'd get constructive and measured comment!

Nice! Are you using the Army Painter Quick Shade method?

Really nice, a bit too big bases for my own taste but you use them well!

Hi all.
My group decided to use a standard base for as much of our units as possible.
Rank firing units are based as you see on 3 60mm wide x 80mm deep.
Platoon are on 3 80mm wide x 60mm deep.
Cavalry are on 2 80mm wide x 60mm deep.
Artillery are on a base 60mm wide x 80mm deep.

This means that the foot have a gap across the front and on the sides. The cavalry are also placed so that there is a space at the end of the unit.
This means that when units are placed next to each other there is a definate gap between them.
Thank you for the comments I will put some more photos up soon and give you an idea of what I mean.

They are really nice, I like the way you have based them giving the look of 3 ranks :D

And because they are Hessians, they are doubly nice

Very tempting, I particularly like the flags, where did you find the details for them?

From the Robert Hall CD The Army of hessen-Kassel under the Landgrave Carl 1670-1730. From Baccus miniatures.

Also yes these are painted using Army painter dip and also their matt varnish.

Hello again Darkman,

Are they Front Rank miniatures??? and the Robert Hall CD you speak of for Hessen Kassel does it have uniform information for the regiments - Prinz Wilhelm, Leib, Erbprinz (which you've already done) and Grenadier.
The Grenadier Regiment must be a converged one???
I'm asking because I'm building all the British Regiments present at the Battle of Blenheim 1704 and the Hessen Kassel Regiments above were the second line brigade behind Brigadier General Rowe's british brigade assaulting the village of Blenheim.

Thank you for any help with this......Ray.

Hi Churchill yes all Front rank figures.
Bought a very large amount with some friends last year and got a very large discount.

The Robert Hall CD has all of the battalions for Hessen Kassel. The grenadier regiment is not a converged regiment but a regiment in its own right.
It was made from the Grenadiers of the guard and the grenadiers of the other regiments in 1697 forming 2 battalions. That is why I have not put any Grenadiers in my battalions.

And here are the Grenadiers

Just have to finish the hats.

Also the Brigadier and Artillery

Next the Cavalry

Hi Darkman,

Thank you for that information and I might purchase the Robert Hall CD myself.
The Grenadiers look excellent and how many Regiments Infantry/Cavalry are you doing???
I'm doing all 13 Regiments (14 Battalions as Orkneys 1st Royal Scots had 2 Battalions) of infantry and 7 Regiments (13 Squadrons) of cavalry with the possible addition of the Erbprinz Dragoon Regiment (4 Squadrons) as these were brigaded together with Ross's Irish Dragoons and Hay's Scots Greys.

Regards.......Ray.
