Hessen Kassel

OK, so after two years I've finally given in to having a section of the FORUM specifically set up to discuss painting techniques, display examples, show your latest projects and chat about this vital part of the hobby. Manufacturers please feel free to post up your sculpts, ask questions about what the gamers are after and generally promote your work.. no charge! Painters, please also feel free to post up your work for comment and critique. I can't promise the unreserved adulation characteristic of some other fora but I would hope you'd get constructive and measured comment!

lovely Grenadiers.

Thanks for the info, I thought it might be the Robert Hall CD, shame it's so expensive.

Oh snap!...so to speak...

Front Rank makes some really nice miniatures, and you make some really nice squadrons!

I'm still not convinced by the "dipping" method, but you and Clarence show some nice arguments for it...

Lovely looking army, I'm trying to keep up

Just finished the Hessian artillery, these are from the Zvezda Artillery of Peter the Great set

Image

I also painted some up as Bavarian gunners

A nice set, but the figures are not up to Zvezda's normally high standards.

Hi Darkman & Fire at Will,

These are very impressive and a force to be reckoned with no doubt.
I do like Front Rank miniatures and I've heard there about to bring out some Danish for the WSS.
I'm about to start on another three British Regiments for Blenheim and these are Howe's 15th Regiment of Foot, Derby's 16th Regiment of Foot and Ingoldsby's 23rd Regiment of Foot (Welsh Fusiliers).
The latter has been a pain to find information on, even after e-mailing the Regiment museum at Caernarfon Castle.

Anyway keep up the good work....

Regards.....Ray.

Oh just one thing I forgot to mention. The blue for the infantry is straight out of the can. It is the Army painter blue primer. Cut down on even more painting.

Both collections are really nice.. the Zvezda stuff looks great too.
Nice to see other Armies apart from British and French!

Which Front Rank Miniature

Post by Churchill » Sun Aug 09, 2009 11:58 am

Hi Darkman,

As you own the Robert Hall Hessen Kassel CD and use Front Rank Miniatures I was wondering if you could suggest which figure I could use as a Erbprinz Dragoon circa 1704.

Thank you for any help.........Ray.

Hi Churchill
Sorry for late reply. The standard WSS dragoons will be fine for the Erbprinz Dragoon
http://www.frontrank.com/lev4_3_5_10_WSS_Cavalry.asp

These are the ones I intend to use for mine.

Now I have them I have to find time to paint them (have 3 battalions of Bavarians and some Cuirassiers to do first)

Cavalry Bases

Post by Churchill » Wed Sep 16, 2009 12:11 am

Hi again Darkman,

Here's another question for you, what size cavalry bases did you use for the Front Rank miniatures???
I'm thinking of using 60mm by 60mm, but I'd be interested on your thoughts on this.

Cheers.....Ray.

Hi Churchill
All the bases I use are 60mm x 80mm.

For Rank firing and Artillery it is 60mm frontage 80mm deep

And for Platoon firing and Cavalry it is 80mm frontage and 60mm deep.

Front rank cavalry are approx 22mm boot to boot. This gives me a gap of about 15mm on the outside edge (see photos) this means that when squadrons are placed next to each other they have a space between them.
You could stagger them if you wanted to on a 60mm frontage. Or if you did not intend to have them in columns of half squadrons then you could have 5-6 figures on a 120mm x 60mm base.

We do this with our 15mm Napoleonic’s for General de Brigade. We have 2 bases with 2 companies on each. And then two half bases.
