King James' Lifeguard of Horse

OK, so after two years I've finally given in to having a section of the FORUM specifically set up to discuss painting techniques, display examples, show your latest projects and chat about this vital part of the hobby. Manufacturers please feel free to post up your sculpts, ask questions about what the gamers are after and generally promote your work.. no charge! Painters, please also feel free to post up your work for comment and critique. I can't promise the unreserved adulation characteristic of some other fora but I would hope you'd get constructive and measured comment!

King James' Lifeguard of Horse

Post by andy thompson » Tue Mar 25, 2014 4:12 pm

I've just finished these chaps...having had them 75% done for about the last 2 years

They represent the 2 Troops of Lifeguards and the Troop of Horse Grenadier Guards.

This is a very nice regiment...Those Front Rank cavalrymen are a joy to paint.
Good job!

hahahaha please don't say that, I find your Lifeguard men quite nice, and have to say I am unable to paint any decent "free hand" designs on the pistol cloth (sorry, Don't know the english name) like yours.
Cheers

Great work Andy, with those nice soft tones I like about all your painting.

I learned a long time ago from a far better painter than me that the human brain likes finding patterns that it recognises. What does that mean?

Well, don't look too closely at the pistol holders with your eyes, your brain will be disappointed.

As long as you're close, observers fill in the blanks. It's awesome 8)

BTW, I should have said ages ago, Bill Paterson painted the horses - I don't do horses.
