New Mounted Dragoons

OK, so after two years I've finally given in to having a section of the FORUM specifically set up to discuss painting techniques, display examples, show your latest projects and chat about this vital part of the hobby. Manufacturers please feel free to post up your sculpts, ask questions about what the gamers are after and generally promote your work.. no charge! Painters, please also feel free to post up your work for comment and critique. I can't promise the unreserved adulation characteristic of some other fora but I would hope you'd get constructive and measured comment!

New Mounted Dragoons

Post by arthur1905 » Wed Nov 23, 2016 12:55 pm

I was lucky enough to get my hands of some of Barry's new mounted dragoons and I thought a post of my progress might be of interest.

First I must say that the casting quality of both the horses and riders is some of the best I have seen, great detail and almost no flash, in fact only one horse out of 24 had any at all.

The horses are smaller than warfare's cavalry horses and there proportions are in my opinion perfect for large pony's/small horse breads.

They have been sculpted with individual reins, so the bulky metal under the horse head has been consigned to the waist bin, which makes the cast very elegant and shows the quality of both the sculpting and casting process.

These are also true dragoon horses, so most of them only have one horse pistol, with the space taken up with either a Axe, Spade or engineering tool.

I will do a second post about the riders.

I hope this helps

some people who were very keen were able to buy some of the master castings from me. I had a limited supply that went to three customers in England and Belgium.

I have now sent both the French and Grand Alliance (hatted) dragoons for production casting. The moulds will take about 2 weeks so we could have the production castings ready for just before Christmas. If I put them up in the shop it will be for pre order right now but the stuff should ship before end December.

I'll stick them in the shop shortly with a big notice saying for SHIPPING LATE DECEMBER!

cheers

spoke to the casters last night. Should have production volumes in about 3 weeks. The first run is limited to about 30 off each code so it'll be on a first come first served basis I am afraid until we get a re stock...

after finishing the Dragoons, here are a couple of photo's of the mounted Dragoons prior to be based.
The Mounted dragoons like the horses are superb sculpting, clean and very easy to paint, you get 3 variations of how they hold there muskets and each has the required bayonet. Even the mounted drummer looks at ease.
