I too have had this mental debate with myself, to re base or not to re base. I have 12 man battalions so if i re based would only have 2 stand battalions per the rules. Unacceptable and I can't throw a tonne of money out trying to fatten them up. All my 28mm figures are from this period but all are based to Age of Reason Marlburian rules from the Warflag website. So I have 3 figures on 4 stands 45mm x 25mm for infantry and 2 figures cavalry on 50mm x 50mm bases. I don't own any pike figures (painted ones anyway) so I have devised a simple way to depict them in a unit. Since a battalion is 3 stands and I have battalions of 4 stands, if that battalion has pikes I just throw the 4th stand behind as shown in the rules. The only drawbacks are visually they aren't pikes and we are forced to record keep casualties. Minor problems, we still get to play.
