Miniature Help

Post by Cajun » Fri Sep 05, 2008 1:13 am

Hello!

I was observing my new Swedish miniatures from Underbed and I noticed there is a sort of rod above the scabbard. Is that a ramrod (I hope that is the official term) or the scabbard for the bayonet? And if so, what color should these be?

Thanks!

Yes that's where the bayonet goes, don't know the english term for it.

I paint the thing that connects to the belt in light beige (representing leather) and the "bayonet-holding-part" in black with a little part of metal in the end.

...hope that helps

Yes Heneborn is right, it's the bayonet scabbard above the sword. Black in colour with either a gold or brass end. The retaining strap/belt for the sword and bayonet were natural leather, beige or buff.

If I'm not completely mistaken (I can't find my sources  ) the leather that the scabbard (that's the word!) was fasten to is actually elk skin. In earlier years (during the TYW and the scanian war but probably a few years into the GNW too) the cavalry's whole uniform was made out of elk skin and called "kyller" in swedish, a breastplate was worn above it. It made for good protection against bullets and swords!
