Big Games

Post by Darkman » Mon Jul 27, 2009 10:08 am

Do people have any house rules for big games.
Example being units allowed to move faster but count as disordered. This is because there did seem to be a lot of dressing the lines once units had reached a reasonable combat distance. This was even under fire.
And do people substitute tokens for Brigades instead of units?

All of your suggestions would work and have been used certainly by me and others who play. I would actively encourgae 'house rules' for large games or scenarios.
Watch out for the next issue of WI as there is a 10 page Malplaquet refight featured using BLB. Extra game mechanisms and ideas for large battles are included in that :D

Hi Barry, Is that the August issue of WI? will look at that when I get it.

Playing my second game on Sunday. At the moment we have 10 Battalions 17 Squadrons and 6 guns for the Allies, 9 Battalions 20 Squadrons and 5 guns for the French between the 4 of us.
As one of us is about to do all the Prussians at Blenheim I hope the French pull their finger out and start painting some Infantry.

Just waiting to see how many French 'elite' units turn up

I will get some photos and put them up next week.

Sounds great.. the proportions of Foot to Horse are very accurate too. Try and maintain that if you can. If you get it right the games will have a hugely different feel. The cavalry become a real force to be reckoned with. Many people don't paint enough and so the games become predictable linear fire fights.
