Barry,

First of all, that French regiment is one of the most realistic units I have seen in my considerable time playing wargames. Secondly, how many figures are in the 15mm frontage unit? I can hazard a guess but I would like to hear his master's voice.

The reason I am asking is that, if you are using 60mm x 60mm bases, do you have extra figures on the middle base? Of course, they both look great as always. Painters like you make me sick!

Regards,

Jim

Thanks Jim.. how sweet (especially the small print!)

Actually only 1 extra figure on the BLB units.. staggered central base arrangement gives the impression of more figures than htere actually are!

Barry,

I just wish to reiterate how strongly I feel so, at the risk of waxing lyrical, that Young Guard battalion is a wee work of art. I look at that and I can smell the stench of the powder, hear the rattle of the musketry and feel the fear mixed with determination in the ranks of the figures. There is a synergy in the choice of poses and uniforms, the standard of painting and the way they are deployed on the bases that takes it several steps beyond anything I have so far seen.

It really tells a story.

Regards,

Jim

Hi Chap's

Barry, that Young Guard battalion is very nice, but we all know what happened to them at Plancenoit and what happened to their commander Duhesme at Genappe.
Being wounded during his capture by the prussians, Blucher himself visited Duhesme and offered his personal surgeon, but this brave French general died of his wounds the next day.

Bob, put that rod away and stop fishing for info from Barry  you'll find out the scenerio soon enough and who told you it was a refight of Gilly???

My Hussar brigade were bloodied at Derby unfortunatly no photo's were taken by myself, but they served Wellington well. The 18th hussars replused a French battalion attacking between La Hay and Papelotte.
The game with about 3,500 figures ended as a French victory, but could have gone either way if we had time to finish it.
French infantry had broken through the Allied line on the ridge routing the Hanoverian militia regiments and the 44th line, but had been charged by Vandeluers light dragoon brigade.Lambert's brigade were ready to plug the gap.
La Haye Sainte and Frischermont were on fire and unheld as the French didn't bother to occupy them.
The union brigade had been launched against the oncoming French steamroller and had some initail success especially the Scots Greys, but after 3 turns of melee had to break off.Two regiments of dragoons made it back to the Allied lines, but the Scots Greys found themselves surrounded with nowhere to go.A regiment of Chasser a Cheval on one side and a regiment of Chevau Leger Lancers on the other finished them off.Bulow's IV corp's arrived on the table and made some headway against Lobou's reserve corp's, but 2 brigades of Milhaud's Cuirassiers and the light guard cavalry were at hand to help.Plancenoit stayed in French hands throughout the battle as the french were able to pin the Prussians.
I had a great weekend at Derby and look forward to my 2nd R2E weekender at the Lundin Links hotel.

See you all soon........

Ray.

Do you have a shot of the difference between the old basing and the new? Are you changing the frontage, or just the depth?

Rob the differences are shown and explained in the two photographs of the Royal Fuzileers and the Irish Footguards in the new items section of the site. Taken together with previous pictures of the collection the gallery it should all be pretty clear
