Last game my Bavarian co-player wanted to charge a Dutch battery, but the Dutch opponent had foreseen this. So the latter also had given his neighbouring two squadron large Gardes te Paard regiment a similar charge order (already formed together for an all or nothing charge), targeted against the Bavarian Kurassier squadron (which targeted the Dutch gun originally).
We played it thus:
1. The gun tested for being charged (OK)
2. The Bavarian and Dutch cavalry tested for charging (OK)
3. Now the Bavarians saw the Dutch getting closer (intention to charge them) and tested for being charged (OK)
4. Not wanting to be hit by cavalry in the flank, while charging the Dutch gun, the Bavarians slightly wheeled and met the Dutch Gardes te Paard.
Is this the correct way to do? Can you react to a charge upon yourself, while you initially had targeted another unit, i.e. the gun in this case?
It seemed the best and most ligical way to do. And perhaps is a nice example of artillery being actively supported.
