Can you actually send in one of your own cavalry squadrons in the rear of an infantry battalion of your troops, which was charged by an enemy squadron and is now in melee?

(I have a photo of the situaion, but don't know how to upload it.)

I don't know if I'm reading the situation properly...
Your infantry regiment is charged by a enemy squadron and you want to know if you can counter charge by going through your infantry.
I would say "No", because your cavalry's line of sight is blocked by your infantry. You've got to be able to see what your charging.
If you are talking about reinforcing a melee which has already fought one round of combat then "Yes" you can.It would just be one disordered mass of troops.Your cavalry would have to be in a charge formation, be in charge reach and pass a morale test to charge.
In this case your cavalry would only need to see the combat, not the enemy.
It explains everything about reinforcing melees on page 46 and 47 of the rules.

Hope this helps,

Ray.

Well, not that bad as I beat off several charges with defensive volleys; now just one Garde francais battalion was laughtered in 3 rounds, and actually only in the 3rd round with 1 casualty and a bad test of a 1 on a D6 with a rereat as utcome of the morale test. Next I was caught in the back....
Next time better
