PLAYTEST GROUPS - THE JACOBITE WARS

Post by barr7430 » Mon Nov 14, 2011 9:50 am

Dear All,

as some of you may know the next Lily Banners related book will be a WARGAMERS guide to the Jacobite Wars. It is our intention to make this a very comprehensive work and to that end we have involved some heavyweight additional contributors who will be announced as time goes by.
The idea is to have several of the scenarios play tested for victory/conditions/ balance/ additional rule mechanisms/special conditions between now and the release date.

We'd like a few hardy souls to volunteer their services to playtest these scenarios and report back to us on the experience.

If you are interested please register that interest by posting here or contacting Clarence or myself directly by pm or via
wordtwister@hotmail.co.uk or Clarence through his blog/site.

Thanks

B

Barry,

Roughly how many units per side would we need to test the games, if we've got enough troops, we'll volunteer too!!

OK Guys,

Arizona, Florida, Gravesend and Bellshill!

As and when the scenarios roll of the pen I'll pass them out.

Ray, the size of the scenarios will vary from something like 6 unit per side to 40 units per side. I would only expect people to deal with what their collection can cope with...

Barry,
Sounds great!

Our group can easily handle 40+ units per side...bring it on!!!

Fantastic!

Ian, I know you PM'd me.. got it and answer here!

The plan is for around 25 scenarios from 4 Boyne sub elements to a few that very few people will have even heard of.

Any one who wants a jump start could go for the 4 iterations? of Newton Butler I did about 2 years ago for Wargames Journal. Are they in the WARCHEST? (can't remember  )

If not, holler and I'll email the lot out..

Hi Barry,

Yes sorry, I jumped the gun and Pm'd rather than posting here. So am posting here now so I can follow the thread.

Can't find the scenario in the warchest, and for some reason the weblink you gave doesn't allow me to download it and print it off from the magazine direct, so if you could post it please it would be appreciated.

Hey all,

Look in the Warchest under published articles page 1 and 5 of the listings; Size is Everything and Wargaming the Glorious Revolution. Nantwich and To Die for the Stuarts scenarios are in the second .pdf The first holds a very large scenario. Here http://issuu.com/neilfawcett/docs/issue_9_new_screen You will find another published scenario by BH, Newtownbutler.

Barry I couldn't locate the Crossing the Shannon scenario though.

We have played these in our group already with BLB 1 and 2, good fun.

Great detective work Joe!

The Newtonbutler scenarios are worth a go for any playtesters who want to make a start. They will make an appearance in the book. The others will not make it as there are too many other things to squeeze in..

I would be interested in any feedback on those. Bearing in mind the article was written before BLB2, it may require tweaking for troops types, rule mechanisms etc.

I was very pleased with that article when I wrote it and wanted to contribute to Neil's venture but I always had the feeling that few people actually got the chance to read it because WJ was not too well known (I thought). Dunno though..

Barry
Mole and I (and therefore I suspect many of LASW) are keen to assist.

You have 'beaten us to the post' with this project and as like minded bods we are more than willing to help where we can.

Sadly I am afraid we can only put about 300 units on the table !!

No probs Tim. Happy to have your crew involved in playtesting although I didn't think you chaps played BLB, don't you use something else?

The Jacobite book has been a long time cooking for me. All the research is done, the photos half done, the scenarios being written. Hope you guys will like it when it appears. Not too long to wait I hope

Cheers

Hi Barry
We tend to use our house rules 'Wild Geese' from the LASW suite which have been around now for about 20 years - where did that time go?
However we often venture out and use other rule sets, we have BLB 1 and 2.
Ready when you are.
