My first game

Really enjoyed my first journey into BLB,
There was just one or two moments that led to debate
I'm sure it's just slowness and on coming senility but could you clarify.

A ) -6 factor for musket firing at extreme range, this arouse out of my cavelry charging infantry, my friend wanting to stand and fire and throwing a 1 and therefore extreme range. My friend felt this -6 was extreme not only at this point but generally would stop anyone firing at long range with muskets. ( I quite liked it in this situation but understood his point in a general fire, pointless without waiting first fire.

Opinions ?

On Page 43 the die roll result is the effect of the fire and not the range. "..a measure of discipline and officer control and not distance." For normal shooting it reflects the same ideas but now distance is a factor in the equation.

Dare I use the term 'roleplay' but in some instances you have to put yourself in their shoes. I avoid becoming upset at a bad die roll, instead I try to imagine myself in that situation to explain it away and sometimes have a laugh at the same time.

Firing at extreme ranges was rarely done, to include up to and through the Seven Years War. It was learned early on that a massed volley just wasn't effective at long ranges. So why make all that smoke and start fouling the muskets before you needed to? The game rewards waiting because that's what they did.

Thank you, my thoughts exactly,

Question 2

His cavalry A wanted to charge infantry B my Cavalry also had a charge and by chance was toward cav A . So how does one do this ?
We were just learning so decided to charge each other but what should have happened ?

What I live about the game is that unpredictability .
We went with drawing playing cards every turn until first shots...
It was like a film script before the first shot was fired.

If you pass morale to charge his horse his charge on the foot is cancelled and he tests for being charged by you. If you fail to charge him, he tests for charging the foot.

If he passes morale for being charged he can counter charge you but not until you have moved 2D6 of your charge distance. If contact he fights at the halt (bad). If no contact the remaining distance is measured and you are moved into contact.

Remember that if either of you need to change facing to make contact a D6 is subtracted from the total charge move. Its actually a wheel move and the D6 represents how easy or hard it was to do so.

If you want to you can break it down into 1/4 moves. And if either of you argues about an inch one way or the other, I don't wanna play with you. :) But if you used the event cards as you say then clearly you enjoyed the fun.
