Command And Control - Intent of rules

Post by Captain Chook » Mon Jul 05, 2010 8:32 pm

In trying to adapt the rules to 15mm there is one area we have debated, the command radii. Is the intention to have parts of the brigade out of the radius and so make it more difficult to do everything you want. Or, as long as the units are deployed reasonably, all units should be within the command radius. With our current basing a 40 strong battalion in line is just about the whole command radius. If battalions flanking this unit are just a few centimetres to the side they are out of range (assuming the brigade general is behind the centre of the first brigade).

Also, if a battalion/regiment is outside of the brigadier's radius, but within the CinCs radius, does it consider itself within command range (ie does not suffer a-1 on resolve or double points for a single unit action).

Cap'n

good questions.. no one should deliberately be outwith command radius. Brigades would not frequently deploy in long lines without a reserve but of course it happened occasionally.

I would extend the command radius in 15mm to accommodate your units sizes in typical formations say

3 front rank 1 rear
or 2 front and 2 rear.
Everyone in line with the birgade in a single continuous line should probably leave 'some mob' just out.

Divisional commander could substitute within radius or CinC.
