Larger sized units

Ok, I hate to ask this but I will anyway. We enjoy gaming with 24 figure infantry units, not the 18 as listed in BLB. Rather than remove a base and make more units, although appealing but that would entail more work than we want so my question is as follows - could a 4th column be added to the 'Shooting casualty table' for a 4th base? I suppose our group could take a WAG at the numbers but I was hoping for something more 'official'. The close combat chart will work fine as it is based on a 6 model elements which is how we base our units.

Any takers?

Yep same here, all my units are in 24 man battalions and in stands of six men each,we play BLB and have modified the rules to allow for this, however its pretty ad-hoc , would love some clear guidance! :)

I asked someone from our group to use the 3 base chart and project out for us what a 4 base chart would look like. Here are his results -

Number of STANDS shooting

Modified 1 2 3 4
die score
1 0 0 0 1
2 0 0 1 1
3 0 0 1 1
4 0 1 1 1
5 1 1 1 2
6 1 1 2 2
7 1 2 2 2
8 2 2 2 3
9 2 2 3 3
10 2 3 3 4
11 3 3 4 5
12 3 4 4 5
13 3 4 5 6
14 4 5 5 6
15 4 5 6 7
16 4 6 7 7

Ok, if someone can tell me how to post a spreadsheet or table then this will make more sense. I tried using the <tr>, <td>, etc. tags but they didn't seem to work.

Gentlemen,

Isn't there a four stand table in the original BtLB? Maybe this could be adapted.

Jim,

Darn you! You made me go look at the original to find the 4 column chart. I was so focused on the 2nd edition that I didn't even think to look in the 1st. Thanks! At least my guy helped fill the chart out to the 19 factors that the 2nd edition has versus only 14 in the first.

Barry,

It's probably too late but, why not just keep the four-column fire chart in BtLB II? I realise that it would probably only be used for Highlanders and other large bands of irregular troops and their ilk. Will you also be having an artillery "parking space" as you have in RtE as I think this is one of the most realistic innovations to come out of that set?

Chaps,

no actually it isnot too late. My work commitments and Clarence's focus on getting the terrain ready for HISTORICON have temporarily halted the release of BLB2 so such alterations are still possible. The dropping of the fourth column was a conscious decision but not an idealogical one. I had no idea how many gamers may have been using the 4th column. The rules are for the gamers convenience not mine so I am happy to put the fourth column back in.

As for the artillery park - yes that is possible although the space will be much narrower as the guns are not grouped in batteries.

I can do these little changes.. anything for the Lads!
