If so, does anybody know where i could find in 28mm the colours ot the 21st regiment (north british fuzileers); I found one at reiver castings under british seven year war flags , but think that it is not right? Hi Voltiguer,
The flags on the Reiver Castings site were made to go with the Jacobite Rebellion 1745.

They were originally constructed to go with a painting order for all of the units at Culloden which one day I'm sure the owner will allow us to wargame with at one of the shows. We'll need a large space though as he wanted them 1 figure = 10 men scale!

18th Century British Colours didn't change all that much and most can be used for the majority of the period after 1740 up to the end of the century.

Hi Voltiguer,

I myself have this regiment, but at the time of Marlbrough and the Battle of Blenheim 1704.At this time they were known by their colonel's name, Rowe's regiment of fusiliers and it was these who first assaulted the french barricade at the village of Blenheim.Brigadier General Rowe was killed in the first assault and the regiment was forced to retreat.
The photo below show's how the regiment would have appeared then and the colour's they would have carried both Colonel's and Regiment's.
The front and rear Battalions are that of Orkney's Foot (1st Royal Scots).

They were also known as the Scots Fusiliers and from 1707 -12 the Scots Fusiliers Regiment of Foot. From 1712 to 51 they were known as the Royal North British Fusiliers Regiment of Foot and it was not until 1751 that they received their Regimental number the 21st Royal North British Fusiliers Regiment of Foot.
At Culloden 1745 the regiment was under the command of a Brigadier General Campbell. The uniform was scarlet with scarlet facings (1678-1712); scarlet and blue facings (from 1712).Regimental and other badges "Thistle within the circle of St.Andrew" with the motto, "Nemo me impune lacessit" also the Royal Cypher and Crown.
Flags, no union between England and Scotland until 1707, so English regiments carried the cross of St.George and Scottish regiments carried the white saltaire of St.Andrew on a blue field before this date. After the union the flags were joined, but the union jack as we know it did not come about until 1801 when Ireland joined the union.

Hope this helps...

Ray.

Would the regimenal colour then be the same as during the AWI , a dark blue field with in the centre the design as you described and in three corners GR? For the uniform i took the 1742 clothing book as in the Funken book, is that ok?

Thanks Churchill,

Happy holidays
