In the 1670s Denmark-Norway had regained enough strength to start a war with Sweden to recover its lost provinces. Then there's the good ole: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Northern_War It shows a list of belligerents.

Danes were considered some of the best troops during the period. I believe they were one of the first to drop the pike as well. They also doled out troops as mercenaries to other armies. They were considered to be and used as shock troops by those armies. They were not afraid to get in and mix it up.
