Image

Finished this command stand of the legendary Swedish king Charles XI, ready to lead my Swedish army for the battle of Lund game we're staging at this years DFFcon convention in Copenhagen late October.

More pictures and a short background on the king can be found on the blog:

Very, very nice! Lovely to see models finished in 'duller' colours, shows they do not lose any visual impact...

This does look great. How do you create these winter bases?

Thank you all so kindly for your comments, very encouraging for the further work on the Scanian War Project!

It was great fun portraying Charles XI, popularly known as "old gray cape" for his toned down clothing. A practical man with a love of organization of state and military, not unlike that of the later Prussian Frederic the Great.
Many have heard of his son, Charles XII with Poltava and all that, but without Charles XI his son, and the Swedish Empire, would not have been able to fight the Great Norther War at all.

The bases are made as follows:
- Base is flocked with sand
- Brown base color
- Highlight of bone color
- Glue applied to small areas, golden grass is flocked on
- Green tufts are glued on
- Everything receives a further clear white highlight to add the "morning frost"

Just seen this blog for the first time - the model of Copenhagen harbour was simply amazing.

What colours did you use for Charles' coat? It's that difficult-to-describe tone that is not quite grey, and not quite brown either.
Ssshhhhh!!!!!
