Balls!

Post by John-G » Mon Oct 19, 2009 9:04 am

Gents,

started work last night on some Front Rank Guerrillas for the next battalion (5th) of my Spanish division (ca. 1808), and was wondering if any light could be shed on the significance/aesthetics, or otherwise, of the following: several figures are sporting conical hats with three 'balls" (for want of a better description) on the left hand side, one at the top of the 'cone' and the other two below this on the up-turned brim: pictures towards the bottom of the page HERE

Any thoughts?

Cheers,

John.

I don't know for sure John but they look like worsted tufts such as would appear as a French Pompon??

Perhaps they are some grizzly trophies they have snipped off the French.

Cheers

I have to say that I like the idea of French 'trophies' Must check the rest of the Guerrillas' headgear for further pieces of genitalia

Suspect though that they are merely a cosmetic decoration.

Cheers,

John.
