Dear Friends,

please help Clarence and I out.

The French cockade:

From the outside : Red : White ; Blue OR

White : Red : Blue ?

Check out historical prints, period books, uniform guides, people's figures and... everyone is doing it different.. so please help us settle the argument(not between us two pals incidentally!).. Which is right?????
Evidence require please

"As fate is inexorable, and not to be moved either with tears or reproaches, an excess of sorrow is as foolish as profuse laughter; while, on the other hand, not to mourn at all is insensibility."

It seems to depend on the Year the picture has been made,i.e.,
Napoleon crossing the Alps, he has a cockade Red-blue-white,
as long as fighting for the Republic.

A french book about headdress tells that it was in the First Empire
white-red-blue and with Napoleon III. the cockade goes to Red-White-blue
All from the outside

Barry,

Doesn't really matter as you'll always get some clever cloggs that'll say it's the opposite to the way you've done it  Remember the helmet incident
