Shako Plume Colour

Post by Churchill » Sun Sep 28, 2008 6:44 pm

Hi all,

I've been doing a bit of research into the three British Foot Guard Regiments at Waterloo.I know that the light infantry companies wore green plumes at the side of their belgic shako's and that the grenadier's wore white plumes and that the rest of the rank and file wore white over red plumes, but what of the officer's, drummer's and ensign's.

Any help would be grateful.........Ray.

Plume for officers is the same colour as the company they belonged to, but their shako cords would be gold. Ensigns (ie flag-bearers) would both be white-over-red plumes and gold cords, as only the junior subalterns from the centre companies would carry the colours, never those from the flank companies.

Musicians would be entirely as for the "other ranks" of their company, so their plume/cords would be white/white, green/green, or white-over-red/white.
Ssshhhhh!!!!!
