I'm hoping Gunter has access to good images of them but if anyone knows of a site where I can get images for all of the Saxon cavalry in 1806 I would appreciate it. I'm looking for all regiments, even those who did not participate in the campaign. Thank you

Greg

Greg,

How soon do you need this information?
Next month I get my hands on Hottenroths book about the Saxon Flags and Standards.

Gunter,

I can wait. Thank you sir!

(if your source also has the infantry - all units - that would be great too!)

Greg,

It contains the Infantry too.

On a French website you'll find the infantry flags of the Saxons
from 1802 to 1813.
But be careful, the you must change the left picture against the right one :!: as the are all wrongsided.
The writing of the Monograms, the Electoral/Royal Cipher, was allways from left to right pointing TO the flagstaff.

As soon as I have the Hottenroth book I give you more details.

Not sure if you have seen Alan Pendlebury's napflags site but there are a few there.

SAME PROBLEM !!!!

The Flags are WRONG - Sided

The Cipher MUST be to the left of the Flagstaff, the Coat of Arms have to be on the Right side of the Flagstaff

Most flag reproduzing companies have copies of the writing of a russian officer who has portrait the Saxon flags captured 1812.
The problem with it is that the copies where wrongsided printed so all did ist wrong.

Hope that helps

Greg,

If you PM me your private e-mail adress I can send you a few pictures. I can't put it in here because of Copyrights.

It is the complete digitized book of Hottenroth about the Saxon flags from 1547 to 1904 :!:

Here a sample

Gunter,

Did I send you a PM? I don't remember! But I'm also curious about the Chevau-leger. One source says the saddelcloth was in the facing color while another shows them as red for all the Chevau-leger. Any ideas? Thank you so much.

Greg,

nope, no PM from you
The Chevau Legers or Light Dragoons - because of their heavy boots and heavy Sabers - had since a reformation in 1767 red saddlecloth a.k.a. Shabracks. There was one Regiment in this time that wore for a short period green coats but after 1769 they got also red cloth shabracks and coats.

The facing color were always used as border color on the Shabracks sometimes in double stripes later as a zigzag.

Hope that helps
