28mm unit sizes for WSS

Post by eboracomb » Thu Aug 25, 2011 9:30 pm

If any of you guys out there wish to have your say on what is the best size units to field I would be very interested in your opinions as it seems a good idea to offer unit sizes that people want to make it easier and cheaper to assemble armies,at the moment i'm considering two sizes for foot,24 figures and 32 figures, the 24 figure unit would be £18 and the 32 figure unit would be £24 with proposed savings on two different army deals. The horse would be 12 figure unit and 18 figure unit which would retail at £24 and £36 pound with proposed savings when bought in the army deals, pictures of the first casts of horse and the dolly's for the foot can be seen on my blog on my site [http://eborminiatures.com]these should be ready for sale sometime in october,so come on guys lets have your input.

I don't think there's any formula that will satisfy everybody. Personnally, I like large units, so the option of 24 and 32-figure units is fine by me. Some folks prefer 16 to 18 figure battalions though.

And just for another variant. we use 12 man units for infantry and 6 man units for cavalry. We originally used a set of rules that had 24 man infantry and 12 man cavalry. Also front rank sell battallion packs of 24 and 12.
I don't really think it matters exactly how many are in a pack. You can never please everyone.!

thanks for your input guys,do you think it would make any difference to customers that I would have to sell the single figures at 90p instead of the 75p per figure for the battalion packs,I suppose they could buy battalion packs for bulk and break these up into whatever size units they liked by buying single figures, thanks for the input that seems to be a good way to go and if I size my blisters properly that could also help.how many command figures, musicians, standered bearers would be used in say an eighteen man unit and how many command figures would be used in a troop of horse or would you just have one command group then add whatever number of troops of six is appropiate to the unit.

cheers Ray thats brilliant, really clear and beautiful photos, the units look great, maybe 18 figure units at £14 would be a good addition to regiment deals.

You'd probably get a nice response from the BLB lads here with those ratios...

look forward to the range

thanks Ray for your input I really appreciate it and will take note of it,the first release is going to be one kneeling firing, kneeling loading, standing firing, standing presenting arms, marching shouldered musket, marching musket shouldered sloped arms, advancing musket high porte, both musketeers and grenadiers in dutch hats and bearskins no plate, also sergeants stood pointing and marching as both musketeers and both types of grenadier, also two different drummers two officers open handed for both standards and spontoons or half pikes and one commanding officer waving troops on with his hat sword in hand.paul has already done the hats for British grenadiers/fusiliers Austrian grenadiers and the larger broad brimmed hat of the early part of the war for units like the Dutch blue guards who according some sources still wore it at the begining of the war,any info on the use of the broad brimmed hat would be great as it seems for every source that says one thing somebody else says differently.sorry about the lenght of this fellas.

Ebor,

Any chance you will do the Great Northern War? Your WSS figures will work for Saxons, and even for some Russians. The Swedes would need to be different. Danes could be used for both WSS and GNW.

It seems that it could well be a good idea as quite a number of people have brought this idea up with me,It is not some thing I know much about but if anybody could point me in the right direction for uniform reference material and reading on this conflict I would be grateful.
