Here we go: the second unit, Touraine. The background is my modular board with a bit of GW terrain which I think fits the period well. I am using Funken and C S Grant for sources and generally taking a few liberties to better differentiate them (the figures that is - not Grant and Funken).

Jim

Really nice Jim, simple but very effective! I've been planning on getting some of the copplestone miniatures myself, perhaps its time...

Regiment Lyonnais joins the project. The background is a Games Workshop "mediaeval" building.

It's images like this that make you appreciate the professional painters. :P

Don't do yourself down Jim. These are good and when the brigades start to form on the table the effect will be EXACTLY the same as with so called 'pro painted' stuff.

A few years back I decided that comparing one exquisitely painted figure over which someone took 5+ hours with an army of 400 figures, well painted and looking fantastic on the table are not in the same universe.

Extremely high levels of detail actually looks poorer onthe tabletop at 2 feet distance than fairly basic painting with minimal highlighting. I know this for a fact because it has borken my heart on numerous occassions at shows!!!

Kepp'em coming Jim.. I am certain Louis's Legions will march and fight well Beneath the Lily Banners!

Thanks, Barry.

I was not so much doing myself down as realising my limitations and at the same time showing appreciation for some of the real professionals on this site. Also, my tongue was firmly in my cheek.

These wee men will look good en-masse and that is exactly what I want.

I have mixed in a few of Mark Copplestone's "Dutch" figures with the big hats to give some variety to the line and am quite pleased with the result.

On a "lighter" note, the painting will have to take a back seat for a while as I managed to slip on one of Motherwell's beautiful ungritted pavements and ended up in A&E with two sprained wrists (there goes the love life) and a couple of cracked ribs.

Now, before we all start with the "poor Jim" replies, I'd rather you all sat back and had a damned good belly laugh as you imagine the CoffinDodger going A over Ts in the snow.

After where you have been I do'nt suppose you've had much recent experience the white stuff and the hyper efficient way the councils deal with it,now the thaw is on the danger becomes drowning in puddles.

Really nice work Jim, interesting to see Copplestone and Dixon figures used together; there goes the last of my resolve :)

Hope you are healed up and back in action soon (I AM talking about the painting table  )

Adam,

Actually they are all from Copplestone although, I believe he did design some castings for Dixon a few years ago. Thanks for the kind words.

Oh, and Barry, I hope the GW terrain hasn't damaged your site too much.
