Thanks, Ray! The musicians added quite a bit of time to the painting process, but I think I worked out a reasonably realistic look for them...

I, too, like the 3-rank look, plus I want to differentiate the platoon firing troops by using a 2-rank base... something I think is important and interesting to represent the difference in frontages between the deeper French and the shallower allies (mainly Dutch, English and Prussians). The clever way to do it is to use the same base size (2x3 inches) turned sideways - thus six figures in two ranks on 3 inch frontage or six figures in 3 ranks on 2 inch frontage. Unfortunately, I figured this out after I had painted and mounted 8 battalions of English and Prussians... And this will work with BLB - which, by the way, I am impressed with now that I have them... Now I have to paint two more figures per battalion (currently they are 16 figures each on 4 square 2x2 four figure bases) AND remount them. Sigh. 3rd enlargement and re-basing for some of the troops...

Senior officers wore their own clothes .so there is no uniform as such. Try using contemporary paintings as reference

To be pedantic about it, Navarre's drapeaux d'ordonnance had feuille morte - i.e orange brown - cantons, not green ones. Your coloured flag appears to combine the golden lillies and crowned arms of Navarre devices featured on the white cross of the Navarre colours with the green cantons of the Champagne regiment. Navarre also had red waistcoats rather than grey ones, which adds a touch of colour to the figures.

Not being critical of your work here, mind you, just pointing out these details for the sake of historical accuracy.

Thanks Arthur - I am partially color-blind ( I can basically see the standard crayon colors, but shades of brown/green are almost impossible for me), that combined with trying to figure out what color the fields were from pictures with no description has been my downfall. I will correct the colors... can you give me an equivalent paint name/number in Foundry or another common acrylic paint company?

You should have seen my horse colors before I figured out I needed someone to tell me which brown paints could be used on horses!

As for the red waistcoats, I had one of two choices - I guess I chose the wrong one - another touch-up!

Anyway, thank you for the constructive criticism! It will prevent my troops being laughed off the field...

I very much doubt your unit would have been laughed off the table, Doug.

Feuille morte is one of those interesting colours everyone seems to interpret his or her own way : some illustrators render it as a medium brown, others as a slightly orangey shade of tan. For what it's worth, I'd suggest using the Foundry Conker brown light shade (which would be jar 54C in the Foundry catalogue) brightened up with a bit of orange to produce a rich hue of orangey brown.

Great - this helps a lot! I hope to update the images soon with the correct flag colors - and new waistcoats... BTW - I am trying out Maverick Models to see what their cloth flags look like - I am normally a purist for painting my own stuff, but it is frustratingly difficult to get high-quality images of the WSS flags to use as models for painting...
