David Imrie's Huguenot Infantry 1690

Post by Captain of Dragoons » Wed May 28, 2008 12:44 pm

Hello David

I was looking at the picture of your Huguenot's on the site, very nice 8)

I know that there was three regiments in the Huguenot brigade at the Boyne, which ones did you paint up :?:

Excellent flags, I wonder if the Huguenot regiments (being French of course) ever carry any colonel's colour with the cross on the white background similiar to those under Louis XIV.

cheers

Hi Ed,
I couldn't find any good info on the Huguenot colors at the Boyne. I asked around but could only come up with a description of early Huguenots flags being Striped (Vert and Horizotal). I have no Idea how accurate this info is and the flags I have done a pure artistic License. The convention of the French was as you know to carry a white colonel's colour and with the Huguenots carrying out other French customs, like gris-mesle or white coats and the fact that they were apparently in some respects still loyal to their King, would not hesitate to give them a French Infantry look!
If you find out any more info...let me know. I'm doing them again as with Reiver castings and will keep researching.
David

David,

I asked Barry a question about this one under the Dutch Guards thread recently.

I was aware that the Huguenot troops of the Wars of Religion in the late 16th century are recorded as having striped colours and the general view held is that these may have been red and yellow in colour.

My understanding is that the regiments within William’s army replicated their Louis IV attributes and had white colours, possibly with the white cross overlaid.

Regards
Tim

Yes, this is exactly how I did the flags for the second and third Huguenot Bn.

Couldn't agree more, nice flags and figures!

Out of curiosity, are those Foundry figures on the standard base sizes?

These are Foundry figures on 50mm by 50mm bases. I went for an extra 5mm frontage to get the figures on the base...doesn't matter in the games.
