What ratio of Dutch: British: Imperal: Prussian should I have for campaigns in Flanders and Germany?

PE,

British should not be more than a third maximum... you have missed the most important component.. the DUTCH!!!!
Prussians would be a smaller proportion that the Brits in general terms. Dutch could make up perhaps 50% but it all depends on the specific battles.. think Dutch!
As my Dutch colleagues often tell me...
If you are not Dutch, you are not much

Barry

Dutch was first on Price Edwards list.

I work on an average of min40+% Dutch, 20% "English",10% Prussian, 10% Danish, 10% "Hanoverian"... 10% the rest.

But as Barry Says - Dutch made up the main component.

thanks

The actual OoB's are available and I would be happy to send them to you if you supply your email.

It would very much depend on the scenario. The Dutch refused to contribute troops to the 1704 Danube campaign (Blenheim) as they were primarily concerned with defending in the Low Countries. So the troops at Blenheim would be all British and subsidy - Danish, North Germans - together with some Imperial-paid Prussian infantry and actual Imperial Cavalry.

At Ramillies and Oudenarde, you have very large Dutch contingents and no Imperial. There would be some Dutch/ British-paid Danes and North Germans too.

At Malplaquet, the Allies were moving in for the kill and everybody and his dog was there. (Well, Cadogan's dog anyway.)

Hi Prince Edward,

I can only comment on Blenheim 1704 fought in Germany unlike Ramillies 1706, Oudenarde 1708 and Malplaquet 1709 all of which were fought in Flanders.
Huevans was partically correct in that the Dutch govenment did refuse to send their troops outside of Flanders, but after pressure from Churchill did send a small contingent about the same size as the British force.
The totals for the Confederate Armies were 66 Battalions of Infantry, 178 Squadrons of Cavalry and 44 Guns compared to the Franco-Bavarians 84 Battalions of Infantry, 151 Squadrons of Cavalry and 90 Guns.
As at the Battle of Waterloo the Allied forces at Blenheim was made up of allsorts namely British, Austrians, Dutch, Danish, Prussian, Hanoverian, Hesse-Kassel and many other small German states.
The British had 13 Regiments (14 Battalions) of infantry and 7 Regiments (13 Squadrons) of cavalry along with the artillery of Colonel Holcroft Blood.

P.S. Huevans my latest regiments are on my Blenheim OOB thread on page 7 if you care to view.

Kind Regards...........Ray.

Can any one enrich me on the details of these. In the OOB's I have looked at I have only 3 Battalions of Dutch, a couple of battalions of Swiss in dutch pay and a number of other battalions in the pay of the Dutch.

Thanks

Hi Darkman,

You asked for the names of Dutch & Swiss Regiments at the Battle of Blenheim 1704.
In the Centre under the command of General Charles Churchill were the regiments Goor & Rechteren (Dutch), Sturler & Hirzel (Dutch/Swiss) these were four of the five battalions of Prince Holstein-Beck Brigade.
In Major General Pallandt's Brigade (5 btns) was the regiment of Bentheim (Dutch).
Behind these were the cavalry of the second and third lines with Lt.General Hompesch Division of 15 squadrons were the regiments Erbach (2 sqns) and Baldwin (1 sqn).Lt.General the Comte de Oostfriese Division of 16 squadrons were the regiment of Sachsen-Heilburg (2 Sqns).
This gives a total of 5 infantry regiments and 3 cavalry regiments (5 Sqns).

Hope this helps.........Regards...Ray.
