GNW Game

Post by Heneborn » Tue Nov 10, 2009 8:32 pm

Me and a friend ran a BLB game set during the GNW at our clubs own little convention, BovCon, during the weekend. It was a large game for us and there were 17 battalions and 9 squadrons on the table (too few I know!). The scenario was basically Barrys peninsular scenario for the "March of Eagles" rules published in WI some months ago, but tweaked for the GNW.

The game was set during the Danish invasion of Holstein in 1700. The danes are besieging the Holstein capital of Tönningen but swedish forces are on their way to relieve the city. They camp a few miles away from the city and during they early morning they launch an attack on some of the outer defences, namely the villages of Kirchfeldt and Breiholz. Danish reinforcements are on their way though...

We played the games twice, the first time it ran for about 9 hours and it ended with a swedish victory. The second time the danes were awarded victory even though we didn't play it to a conclusion. Six different players tried the game, none of them had ever played it before and none of them were what you would call "hardcore wargamers" having only played some games of FOW and WHFB before. They all enjoyed it very much though!

Really nice Andreas and a clever transposition into a different period and theatre!
The game looks excellent 8)
