Got another Danish question

Post by 18th Century Guy » Fri Mar 25, 2011 11:58 pm

I'm looking at the Sapherson booklet and the Hall prints. In Sapherson he lists two Guard cavalry regiments - Livgarden til Hest (in a red or yellow coat depending on who you believe) and the Livregiment til Hast (in a grey coat). The Hall print show the R.R. Livregiment in a red coat.

So my question is, which one is right? Which one has the red coat?

Go with Hall. A Royal Order dated 28 February 1699 changed the coat to red faced yellow for the Livregiment. Prior to that time the coat was grey faced red. Sapherson's information on the Danes is questionable.

Awesome, thanks Dan. One more question in the same vein. Which of the two Guard cavalry units did serve with the Maritime Powers?
