Östgöta kavalleriregemente (Östergötland Cavalry Regiment)
The regiment has its origins in fänikor (companies) raised in Östergötland in the 16th century. In 1619, these units—along with fänikor from the nearby Jönköping County—were organised by Gustav II Adolf into Östergötlands storregemente. Sometime between 1623 and 1628, the grand regiment was permanently split into three smaller regiments, of which Östgöta kavalleriregemente was one.

The regiment was officially raised in 1636 although it had existed since the 1620s. Östgöta kavalleriregemente was one of the original 8 Swedish cavalry regiments mentioned in the Swedish constitution of 1634. The regiment's first commander was Hans Rotkirch. It was allotted in 1687.

Östgöta kavalleriregemente was merged with Östgöta infanteriregemente in 1791 to form Livgrenadjärregementet. The reorganisation and renaming to a "life grenadier" title of honour was conducted in regard to the regiment's achievements during Gustav III's Russian War. Östgöta kavalleriregemente was renamed to Livgrenadjärregementets rusthållsdivision and retained some form of semi-independence.

The Karelian or County of Viborg and Nyslott Cavalry Regiment
Swedish name: Kareliska eller Viborgs och Nyslotts läns kavalleriregemente.
The regiment was first established in 1632 as the County Viborg Cavalry Regiment (Viborgs läns kavalleriregemente). The regiment was linked to the Allotment System in the 1690's.
The regiment was disestablished in 1809.

The regiment was disestablished in 1721 and the horsmen organized into a dragoon unit. This unit received the name the Karelian or Kymmenegård Dragoon Squadron (Kareleska eller Kymmenegårds dragonskvadron) in 1724. In 1753 the Kymmenegård Company was reunited with squadron (separated in 1721).
The regiment's history goes back to the Karelian horsemen raised in 1618.
The regiment was allotted with 1000 "rotar".
Hence, the Regiment had 1000 horsemen organized into 8 squadrons.

Uniform before the standard uniform: Grey coat with cuffs in the county color. The regiment received the standard uniform (the blue and yellow Carolean uniform) in 1689/90.

Location of the primary Garrison of the Regiment: ??. Training camp: ??

No, the provincial regiments with ethnic Swedes and Finns stayed home. I do not have much knowledge about the Swedish regiments who took part in that war, but they appear to have all been newly raised units composed mostly of Germans. As far as I know the only permanent unit that could trace lineage to them was the French regiment Royal Suedois which was created by Swedish prisoners of war.

Sending Swedish regiments to fight and die in a foreign war was something the Swedish king was very reluctant to do. He only did it to ensure support from the naval powers in the Holstein-Gottorp question and he was never going to send any of his best regiments.
