Do you think I could get away using Front Rank WSS figures for a table top battle set in the War of Austrian Succession? Or do you think it just won't look right/correct?

WSS Dutch as WAS Dutch
WSS Austrians as WAS Austrians
WSS British as WAS British
etc, etc

Reading Charles Grant's Wargaming in History he has no issues with using his mid-18th Century Armies for refights from the WAS (1740s) all the way to early AWI and WBS (late 1770s)
cheers
Edward

You could, but the WSS figures would all be incorrect for the WAS. Austrian and Prussian uniforms were essentially (with some minor differences) the same as worn in the SYW. They are quite different from those of the WSS, the most noticeable differences being the additions of lapels and turnbacks. Most of the German states' uniforms followed, more or less, either the Prussian or Austrian pattern. The only correct WAS Dutch figures that I know of are from Eureka. They, too, are much different from the WSS, all with turnbacks and some with lapels. The British uniforms in the WAS also had lapels and turnbacks, unlike the WSS. FR's '45 range British will, of course, work for the WAS

You might get away with using WSS French infantry for the WAS. Turnbacks had not yet been adopted, a least universally (don't want to start a debate on that!).

Edward,
I'm afraid there are a number of problems - gaiters, turnbacks, lapels, collars, etc, though as suggested you may use some French for 2nd line units, those long posted in far-away garrisons, etc. and possibly the Austrians at a pinch... :?

or you could try Eureka Miniatures for WAS types...

and the SYW series have Saxons that are really good Prussian look-alikes)
Cheers, Rohan.

By the way, Nic Robson, the Eureka proprietor, is muttering about some mounted Arquebussiers de Grassin, so if anyone wants some (yes I certainly do), drop him a line to convince him it is a good idea.
