Hello everybody

Doing some research on French Regiments in Ireland.

From a previous post in 2007 on FT list of French Regiments in Ireland were:

Regiment de Forez
Regiment de La Marche
Regiment de Merode
Regiment de Tournaisis
Regiment de Zurlauben
Regiment de Famechon

While trying to find that post / info on French Regiments in Ireland I came across info from googles books A History of the Irish Brigade in the Service of France or something along that lines that list the names above with Forez being listed as Regiment de Forest but also a Regiment de Courvassiez :?:

That would make seven battalions or did Zurlauben bring both battalions to make eight :?:

Thanks

Edward :?

Edward,

Zurlauben brought two battalions and the others one each - On the official rosters, the other regiment you mention is alternately "ForĂȘt" or "Forez".

If I get a chance later will dig out my copy of O'Callaghan and see in what context he mentions "Courvassiez" - It could easily be something as mundane as a later succession of colonels.....

- Mike.

Hello Mike

Regiment de Courvassiez is listed with the others as being selected to go to Ireland with Regiment de Forez, Regiment de La Marche, Regiment de Merode, Regiment de Tournaisis, Regiment de Zurlauben and Regiment de Famechon.

Perhaps they didn't sail.

cheers
Edward

Edward,

can't find Courvaissiez in O'Callaghan (but then again his index isn't great) but neither can I find it in the Franco Irish Correspondence.
Only other option is that it may be in d'Avaux.

Hello Mike

I would say the author may have been mistaken, or the regiment was warned to sail to Ireland and its orders changed or as you say above a succession of Colonels names. Thanks for looking.

cheers
Edward
