Here's the complete version Ray. Mind you: this is a copy of a copy from an unverified source (Robitscheck).

But for which year is this flag dated ?

@Ray: I would love to see them :D

@Maciek: The plates Robitscheck drew depict the Staten army in 1672-1675. The plates were ordered by the millionaire De Ridder, who hired artists abroad to draw pictures of the different armies of 'our' period after contemporary drawings and documents in local archives. We don't know where Robitscheck (who lived in Vienna) got his information from. There are suspicious errors in other plates (see Motorway's analysis of the Beveren regimental flag on the 1672 blog) http://rampjaar.blogspot.nl/2012/06/regiment-van-beveren-ii.html, so we must approach the historical value with caution until we've found the originals. The De Ridder collection is now in the Cabinet des Estampes of the Bibliothèque Nationale in Paris.

Addendum: Yesterday, my friend Motorway had some correspondence with Mr. Jean Belaubre (IMO THE authority on the period) about the reliability of Robitscheck's plates. In short: the flags are fantasy, but the uniform details are reliable. Sorry Ray. 8)

The biggest problem we face, is the fact that neither Robitscheck, (The artist of the plate Mats has put op here), Ten Raa (one of Robitshceck's patron's or Hoynck van Papendrecht (a dutch military painter) bothered to mention their sources.

The interesting thing about the Nassau-Friesland colour is the fact that probably for esthetic reasons the laurel is drawn in a somewhat unusual fashion. The two lions were used BTW on other colours linked to Frisian/Nassau regiments.

It might be possible that in one of the many archives in Vienna some original prints or drawings are available, but my first attempts to find out something were not as fruitful as I hoped.

Hoynck van Papendrecht made a copy of a german version of Les Triomphes de Louis le Grand, the famous French manuscript with captured Allied flags (you can order a paper copy at the dutch army museum, a different version can be bought at auction houses for around 4000 euro's) but a first glance has showed me it is not complete. At the moment I am analysing Hoynck's notes.

The original Triomphes is still at the French National Library.
