Hello Dannie,
As you could read on my blog, the pre-Revolution Irish Guards contained just 13 companies. As it were large companies, it could count for two battalions (when the Irish Guards were raised in 1662 it was about 1200 men). With the companies, as a battalion, going to England in October 1688 there would not be much left.
However, one should not forget that the spring of 1689 saw a huge expansion of the Irish Jacobite army. Eventually leading to the 20+ companies sizes Irish Guards.
