Figure comparisons

Digging through the pile of old lead, I found two 12/14 figure battalions of 25mm Imperialist Miniatures British - well loved, but in desperate need of updating.

How well do other figure ranges mix with Imperialist? I was thinking of purchasing some additional command figures (preferably ones with cast closed hands) and maybe some different poses of other ranks to liven things up a bit.

I presume Front Rank would noticeably stand out, but how well do other manufacturers (like Dixon, Ebor, Old Glory or WARFARE) mix with Imperialist?

Rob,
I purchased a bunch of Imperialist Miniatures earlier this year for my GNW project, and work fine with Foundry (Old series) and Dixon. I used the command to supplement where I was short. I have no complaints.

Hope this helps.

if Dixon work with them then so will Warfare as I have mixed both successfully especially the Dixon LoA range.

What about Ebor?

Clarence has a comparison pic on his blog. While I like the clean sculpting of the Front Rank figures, clearly they are very big compared to the others. Comparisons with Ebor and Imperialist, I can't answer.

No idea about Ebor. I took the picture in question when I first took over Warfare. Nothing will fit with FR in terms of size. Issues of sculpting style are a taste thing pure and simple. FR have a great reputation and their casting quality is very high. I would say, on a table any larger that 6 x 4 discrete units of FR will sit fine with anything else. They would not mix well in the same unit and close up scrutiny shots of the type often seen on this forum and galleries would look odd.

Of course I would love everybody into the period to by Warfare but that is not credible. Wargamers by nature have varying degrees of OCD, it depends what your OCD reading is as to whether you will want to kill yourself for mixing various manufacturers.

There is probably space for all those involved right now even the less than serious players.

I know its a different period, but Front Rank Napoleonics mix very well with Victrix. I have both in the same unit and you wouldnt know. :!:

I collected and painted Foundry in my earlier days, but now changed to Frontrank.
Yes, it's a matter of taste, but it's also the size.
They're easier to paint for an old half-blind guy like me.
I can still see (most) details.

Haven't got any Ebor yet much as I am tempted mostly because Richard Clarke has stolen all my wargaming budget & worse my very limited painting time of late. I do want some as I want more Warfare & Dixon the advantage of the latter being that as Spirit Games stocks them I can sneak in & get me fix off the shelf.

I have some Ebor WSS figures, the infantry look as though they would fit perfectly with Barry's WF range however the cavalry looks more like Front Rank.

I'll try and get a pic up later this evening...

Hope this helps. Must admit I was a bit disappointed at the larger size of the Ebor cavalry...
