Wolfenbuttel Contingent

Post by Redmist1122 » Sun Jan 20, 2013 7:44 pm

Haven't found any previous posts about this contingent in the Dutch Army, so here it goes. I have the "Heft 15 Braunschweig-Wolfenbuttel 1701 -1714" pdf, unfortunately for me its in German, I think. So I can't translate, does anyone know of any web sites with information concerning the "Wolfenbuttel Contingent" that was assigned to William III's Dutch Army?

Oh, I also have the booklet from C.A. Sapherson too. Sapherson gives some indication on unit names and uniform colors and the "Heft 15" gives some pics of uniforms and flags...just looking for more information on flags and possible action with William III.

Thank you.

Greg,

PM received and answered :D

Also I found the following book at a digital libary in Braunschweig, but only part 2   I downloaded it from there the pdf(31MB)

http://digisrv-1.biblio.etc.tu-bs.de:80 ... t_00028553

Geschichte der stehenden Truppen im Herzogtum Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel, 2. Band: 1714 - 1806. Mit 2 Anlagen, 10 Gefechtsplänen, 3 prophielen Tafeln und 7 Tafeln farbige Uniformbilder / von O. Elster

Part 1 is the more interesting one, for you, as it covers 1600-1714.
As I dont want to buy it at GBP 70.- or EUR 96.- I look for it within the I-net.

I'll keep searching

Wienand,

Thanks! Couldn't find it there
Download done

Greg,
The Foot Regiments you are asking for are:
Bernstorff
v. Kragen until 1702, then Erbprinz August Wilhelm
Holle? maybe Holstein-Plön Edit Holle stays as it was one Battalion formed for Field duty, as they raised units for such occasions only to dissolve it when the mission was over.
Gen. Graf Lippe -->Edit: found a Battalion Ziegenhirt (former owner Gen. Graf Lippe)

The pdf you sent me contains some informations about the flags.
It is certain all Foot carried 1 flag in each company, all Horse 1 flag with each Squadron.
There seems to be a white flag for the Leibkompanie with a silver/grey horse and for the other companies yellow flags with white horse.

The special flags as shown in the pdf are those who were captured and drawn by Jean Belaubre.

Let's see what is in the 1st part of the book Wienand pointed me too.

Greg,

There quite a few units which served Brunswick-Wolffenbuetel within the WSS but would is be possible to narrow the time frame a bit?

4.-20.03.1701 Treaty with the French for defensive reasons for 8.000 men
4.-30.11.1701 further 4000 men are to be sent.

Infantry
Herzog Rudolf August Guard on Foot 1 Comp. 200men
Herzog Anton Ulrich Guard on Foot 1 Comp. 200men
Leibregiment Rudolf August 10 Comp. 124men each
Leibregiment Anton Ulrich 10 Comp. 124men each
Regiment Generalmajor v. Bernsdorff 10 Comp. 124men each
Regiment Generalmajor v. Kragen 10 Comp. 124men each
Regiment Herzog v. Holstein-Plön 10 Comp. 124men each
Regiment Brigadier von Hering 10 Comp. 124men each
Landregiment 10 Comp. 124men each

Cavalry
Herzog Rudolf August Garde zu Pferd 1 Comp. 200men
Herzog Anton Ulrich Garde zu Pferd 1 Comp. 200men
Regiment Erbprinz August Wilhelm 6 Comp. 50men each
Regiment Oberst v. Bonac 6 Comp. 50men each
Regiment Oberst von Fullen 6 Comp. 50men each

Dragoner
Regiment Prinz Ludwig Rudolf 6 Comp. 50men each
Regiment Generalmajor v. Klengel 6 Comp. 50men each
Regiment Oberst v. Schleinitz 6 Comp. 50men each

Artillery
1 Bombardier Comp. 145men
1 Kanonier Comp. 145men

after the Attack of Hannover and Lueneburg-Celle 19. and 20. 03.1702
the Troops were the following

Infantry
Herzog Rudolf August Guard on Foot 1 Comp. 200men
Herzog Anton Ulrich Guard on Foot 1 Comp. 200men
Leibregiment Rudolf August 8 Comp. in 2 Battalions
Leibregiment Anton Ulrich 8 Comp. in 2 Battalions
Regiment Generalmajor v. Bernsdorff 8 Comp. in 2 Battalions
Regiment Generalmajor v. Kragen 8 Comp. in 2 Battalions
Landregiment 8 Comp. in 2 Battalions

Cavalry
Herzog Rudolf August Garde zu Pferd 1 Comp. 200men
Herzog Anton Ulrich Garde zu Pferd 1 Comp. 200men

Dragoner
Regiment Prinz Ludwig Rudolf 4 Comp. in 2 Squadrons

Artillery
Oberst Voelker 1 Comp.

The pages 9 to 15 of your 'Heft 15' give the battles in which the above mentioned units have fought.

Hope that helps a bit
