ULB v.5 -- Situation Update

Post by Bluebear » Tue Sep 26, 2006 9:16 am

Okay,

We are all eager to see the new version of "Under the Lily Banners". This thread is for Barry to let us know what's new.

Please do NOT post here -- let Barry have this for our information.

So, Barry, what's the latest?

Thanks for that C

Jeff et al,

some serious work in progress....

Rules have further refinements(and decisiveness!) incorporated into Fire & Melee
Expansion and clarification of other topics.
More events
Scenarios guide
Sample battle with blow by blow text
Artwork by Quindia
New photos
Uniform guides in the pipe

This is a major enterprise now and will take a little time to finish but we are both really fired up by the project and are confident it will be worth waiting for.

Cheers

Barry,

About three months have passed since you last posted an update here. What can you tell us about the status of ULBv5?

Any idea when we'll get to see it?

oh dear
are you telling me off Jeff?

All good things come to he who waits...

A lot of work is going into this not only from me but from Clarence. As we are going to be offering ULB as a commercial concern we want everything to be right:

Text
Rule mechanisms
Photos
Maps
Scenario details
Uniform plates
Artwork
Army Lists
Period supplementary rules for GNW and Jacobite wars
Reference list
etc
etc

It will be full colour throughout and once the format is proven it will be applied to Republic to Empire and Victory without Quarter

hope that is enough to be going on with 8)

The natives are getting restless...

With a massive production crew of two, it doesn't take much to derail things, however I think we are almost to the point where the work can proceed quickly. I think the rule mechanisms are in their final form and that was the most important aspect to finish so the layout work could proceed. With all of the tables, etc. that section will be hard to edit once the layout is complete so I wanted to make sure everything was right before working that up.

As Barry mentioned, in addition to the rules, there will be lots of extra material devoted to wargaming, including a general guide to the period, detailed scenarios, uniform guides, etc.

All of the photos will be new and exclusive to ULB. Even if you don't play in this period, the book will be a great showcase of Barry's collection. There will also be illustrations, maps, color uniform plates, etc. I have started scribbling ideas for some of these.

A new website is also in the works!

Oh, yeah, the cover is finished, but I'll let Barry decide when to show it to you...

Anyway, it's hard to give a date at this point, but I have nearly cleared my schedule of other commitments. After the holidays I hope to be able to work exclusively on ULB.

I think you will find it worth the wait...
