Spanish Artillery Uniforms

Post by Don Sebastian » Sun Apr 06, 2014 1:52 am

Does anyone knows what was the uniform of the spanish artillery during the end of the XVII century? I searched in my Boieri book about the Spanish Armies of the Nine Years War, but he doesn't mention the artillery ):

Hello Don Sebastian, I'm not quite sure, but I paint them in blue with red facings and stockings... I have seen them wearing this kind of uniform in several sites, as well as at the begining of the XVIII century.
Here are mine :

Here there are some artillery men painted:

here some 15mm

Hope this helps... If you find any source about this , please tell me ! :)
Cheers.

Chema1986, your spanish artillery looks amazing! However, I've read in two spanish sites that the "blue coats with red facings" uniform appeared at the beggining of the XVIII Century, with the reorganization of the spanish artillery under Phillip V. However, none of those sites mentioned the uniform of Charles II artillery ...

So the colours for late XVII century are unknown ?
Are you sure those bourbons artillery colours weren't used before the "ordenanzas" of 1706 ?
Without any other reliable source, I decided to paint them like that. By the way, do you know any source for Spanish militia o migueletes ? I cant find proper colours for them.
Cheers

Chema, after searching a lot, I've found this reference to red and blue spanish artillery uniforms:

http://books.google.com.br/books?id=9k2 ... ue&f=false

However, the author does not mention his source. I emailed osprey for the author's contact, and they haven't emailed back since.

As for the Migueletes, I don't have information about their dress, but I'll keep looking.

Many Thanks Don Sebastián ! I'll paint my other gun crew that way :D and for the Migueletes I think I will mix thirty years wars milita uniform (those from Warlord games look great) with front rank Monmouth rebels. the only uniforms I have found are from War of Spanish Succesion... But I found French Mountain militias (Catalan or Rosellon) in this book :Guidons, Flags and Uniforms of the French Dragoons, Militia, Artillery and Bombardiers under Louis XIV, 1688-1714 by Robert Hall, Yves Roumegoux & Giancarlo Boeri
