Got the rules, got some non rules question

Post by Gunfreak » Wed Oct 05, 2011 8:10 pm

So I got the rules today, beutifull book.

I know the game used 18 figure battalions, but mine are 24, so I thought of lots of ways to do this, but then I came upon an idea, and the rules confermed it, just say the unit is 18 strong, ignore the 6 extra figures, they are purley estetic.

Does that sound it's going to work, or is the extra base going to give battalions to much frontage compeard to the ranges of muskets ect.

I don't think so, since the rules let you use many diffrent base sizes.
So my 4.5times 4 bases is 18 cm, while a 3 base unit of 60mm frontage is also 18cm.

My second question is more a historical thing, I'm wondering how to rate certain units.

I'm working on this British brigade
Sir William Clifton's Regiment of Foot
The Welch Regiment of Fusiliers
Sir Edward Dering's Regiment of Foot
Scots Fusiliers
The Earl of Bath's Regiment of Foot
Are any of these known to be worthy of elite statues? or should all be drilled?

I'm also wondering of the french and allies.
My first brigade will be the 3 battalions of De la Reine since this is the queens regiment, should they be elite or is it just a fancy name?

Some units I do think might actualy be elite is the Irish brigade,
Dorrington's Regiment
Clare's Regiment
Lee's Regiment

Should one or more of these be elite?

Just my 2 cents.

Dorrington's Regiment Elite, but not the others.

The French only the first six regiments, the Vieux Corps, (oldest regiments) Picarde, Navarre, Champagne, Piemont, Normandie and La Marine could be classified elite and thats subjective. Also possibly some Petits Vieux Corps or the next oldest regiments. Again not all of them and in either case extremeyl subjective.

As for the British, I would go all Raw but I'm a Jacobite and have no use for them :) More seriously I have no information to make a call here. There are other more educated than I in all cases that can throw in their thoughts.

Gunfreak,
I use 12 figure units for foot with smaller bases and 4 figure squadron for cavalry. I made a simple ORBAT that tracks hits, etc...so as you say the lack of or extra figures are for looks.
Like any rule set, as long as everyone's units are based the same, shouldn't be a problem.

Good luck!
