I like the militia unit, all standing round, having a chat to one another.
"Well we've gathered on the village green as his grace asked, but what do we do now :? and when do we have a break from holding these long pointy sticks up"
"The wife said, I had to be home by 4 o'clock or the dog was getting my dinner"

A very colourful unit and fun to use I expect...will they, won't they!!!

Ray.

The sharp eyed amongst you may have spotted that all of the volunteers have a 'field sign' in their hats.... I attached a pice of paper underneath each hat band!.. painted white That was fun

Hi Gents

Question ref cavalry sqn to infantry battalion in Ireland. Was it the same 2:1 as per Flanders/Western Europe or was it different? Or did the two sides have different amounts of cavalry to infantry. I'm guessing for artillery William would of had more guns.

cheers
Edward

ps: looking forward to the new book.

Ratio of Foot to Horse is probably higher in Ireland (ie more infantry less cavalry) Edward. It would vary from battle to battle or stages in the campaign though

Yes, Barry, you can chalk me in for a copy of the Irish supplement when it comes out, too.

Cheers & Merry Christmas, Rohan.

Does anyone have any info on the French uniforms that were given to the Irish troops? I'm basically wondering what colour of facings, if any did the uniforms have? I've finished Antrim's regiment with red facings and just wondering if any of the other units had different coloured facings.
Cheers
Dave

All of my readings have said that the French troops sent brought bolts of gray cloth from storage, leftover from supplying French troops, to make uniforms. No mention of facing colors or how many uniforms were actually made.

Thanks Joe, I knew about the grey cloth being sent over I just wondered if there was a coloured material for facings. I've already got Antrim's in light grey/white uniforms with red facings but would like to do something different for the next unit. Perhaps I'll just paint them a mixture of all grey. I was also wondering about Jacobite dragoon uniforms, I've heard from a couple of people that O'Brien's dragoons had yellow jackets and fur caps but can't find any info on other regiments.
cheers
Dave

I've just painted up Clare's/O'Brien's grey cuffed yellow. Don't know if its right, but as far as I know there is no definitive answer.

I wondered about yellow cuffs for Charles O'Brien's regiment as that was the colour used by the Clare regiment of Wild Geese fame and as I mentioned before O'Brien's dragoon regiment were supposed to clothed in yellow but with red facings, although I have failed to find any definite proof of this.
Cheers
