I'm looking for a copy of the black powder rules-set or a copy of la-salle, or both. I live in the US.

Um, maybe stating the obvious here, but google or your local hobby shop can hep you out with black powder, Lasalle there are some on ebay, or again (quelle surprise) your local wargames shop or google.

That is the obvious. I am looking for a used copy for a little less than RRP, hence this thread in the trading forum.

Well he did suggest ebay. There's bound to be plenty available at prices to please the thriftily inclined.

I've found about two listings for each. I wanted to broaden the number of people my interest in acquiring the rules sets, so I posted this thread. So if anyone has a copy and wants to sell it, let me know.

As a matter of interest if you are embarking on the period why would you not consider Republic to Empire? This forum is full of info on the rules, playability, queries etc. R2E is considered (by some) a direct competitor to the above 2 (although not by others!).

that's what they were written for. I am surprised that you've not noticed. The forum, gallery and website landing page are covered in text and images for R2E.

Ah. Ignorance is bliss, eh?

Checked it out. I'm looking more along the lines of $30 in spending power at this time, hence my search for the above rules sets second hand.

Marcus, if you live in Fla there is a convention this weekend, Recon, at Cocoa Beach. http://www.hmgs-south.com/hmgs/ surely the vendors there could provide you with those rules.

R2E would get my vote, i have the black powder rules purely as i was offered them through a book club for a silly price and it is a nice book but not a serious wargame per se.

Lasalle, never played, read enough about it thank you.

Sorry azeroth old chap but i have to heartily disagree. Having played upwards of 60 Black powder and Hail caesar games Our chaps at the club feel that they are one of the best sets ever written.
By serious though if you mean a 500 point bash between twi po faced individuals you are correct.
Hoever for a good, easy to learn, enjoyable set of rules played between a like minded bunch of friends they are simply excellent.
.... unlike Lasalle :)

Jim, that was indeed my impression of serious games. I agree they do look good for a fun evening game and one day soon I hope i can get round to playing a game with them.

BP for me Ian if you just want to move your toys around the table and have a bit of a giggle.

I'm guessing that otherwise I'd say RtE but I haven't managed to play a single game as of yet, though I do admit to thumbing through the rules taking in all the eye candy quite often- just as important as the rules IMHO.

Darrell.
