would you have a list of hanovarian infantry coulors during the war of spanish succession or are you just going by the Kuhn book. the reason i'm asking is because some of the colour's seem to be the same as hanovarian colours of the seven years war. would you have any other information on the subject.danschorr wrote:The information below is taken from August Kühn's “The Subsidy-, Imperial- and House-Soldiers of the Elector George Louis of Hanover-Calenberg and of Duke George William of Lüneburg-Celle, later united in the Army of the ELECTORATE OF HANOVER”. I believe a copy can be purchased from Caliver Books.
Uniform:white coat, cuffs and linings green, waistcoat
straw-yellow, stockings, hat border, and neckcloth white, tin
buttons
Colours for de Luc (2A), but quite possible for Boisdavid (2A)
Colonel's colour: light green with red middle-field thereon a
white, springing horse, surrounded by a silver laurel wreath and
with silver ornaments in the four corners.
Company colour: light green, in the middle surrounded by a silver
laurel wreath an armoured arm coming out of grey clouds with a
silver sword in the hand upon it in black letters the word
"VICTORIA", above it on a white scroll in black lettering "SI
DEUS PRO NOBIS QUIS CONTRA NOS".
Hope this helps
there seem's to be quiet a few infantry standards in the Kuhn book which seem to be from the seven years war period. wondering if any one has any info apart from Kuhn on hanoverian standards of the wss.Churchill wrote:Dan,
I guessed the two Garde Btns were both from Hanover, but different states within Hanover.
Would this mean they were uniformed the same and carry the same standards.
In Kuhn's work it says the Leib Infantry Regiment for rank & file wear a Red coat, vest; Black cuff's and lining; White stockings; Yellow hat edge and buttonholes; Buff breeches; Brass buttons.
Regimental standard of white field with silver horse and red central field, surrounded by a golden laurel crown and four electoral crowns in the four corners.
To me the flag discription sounds as if it dates from George I or even later SYW.
When does the Hanoverian horse first appear on flags?
Cheers,
Ray.
